COUNSELLING

We all have those moments in our lives when we feel overwhelmed with life, or feel completely alone with our life struggles, or we recognise that this feeling of being very ‘blah’ or ‘feeling down’ is lasting a while.

Counselling is a non-judgemental and confidential way to explore these feelings, understand where they come from and how to work with them so that you can deal with them in a better way and be happier in your life.

Your feelings are real and it is important to recognise them - it’s what you do next that makes for a happier life.

Counselling is not about giving you the answers, but about helping you to discover the answers that are right for you - Afterall you know yourself better than anyone else (I know it doesn’t always feel like that) but you really do… sometimes we just don’t know how to really listen to ourselves.

Our time together

Counselling - Its My Life - Andy McCormack

Sessions are 50 mins (approx) in duration and are available online or in person.

If you have not had counselling before it can feel a little strange that the session is all about YOU - for some of us that doesn’t happen very often and it can be hard to know what to say - It’s OK and perfectly normal.

I encourage you to take a breath and just talk about what feels right to say at that moment - we can work through the sessions together.

I am here to walk beside you at this time of your lifes journey, I will make sure our time together is safe and that you are guided and supported to discuss whatever it is that you want to talk about.

Examples of what my clients come to see me about include:-

Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, feeling of being lost, relationship challenges, Life challenges, grief and loss, Decision Making, Family Issues,

However session content maybe shared with my supervisor (but no names are mentioned) and where there are safety concerns as per New Zealand Association of Counsellors guidelines .

Are you qualified ?

Yes - I have been a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors since 2007.

How many sessions do I need to have?

I work on a session by session basis so it is upto the both of us to decide. I do recommend clients budget on 2-3 sessions initially but as I say - it really is upto YOU.

Do you have a cancellation policy ?

Yes sessions cancelled less than 24hrs before the session time incur a cancellation fee.

I have not seen a counsellor before, what can I expect?

It is perfectly normal (and OK) to be nervous before you start your first session. My role is to make you feel comfortable and safe so that you are able to talk about what is happening in your world.

In most sessions you do most of the talking and I listen, ask questions, challenge thoughts/beliefs and provide some guidance. I also may encourage you to do some work between sessions - but it is all at your pace and your choice.

The more you put in the more you get out.

What can I talk to you about?

Anything at all - I am a general counsellor and happy to support clients regardless of what is happening in their world.

Can we chat before I book a session?

Yes, absolutely - I am very happy to have a 10min chat on the phone and answer any questions you have.
